I have read a few books for this month, so I figured Id post those and head back over here at the end of the month to update the rest. I am quite behind on my goal but with J's new and (not) improved upcoming schedule, Im pretty sure I will have a ton more time to read... When Im not crocheting!
Book 27. 40 LOVE by Madeline Wickham
As I first got into reading this book, I was not sure I would like it. But in true Madeline Wickham/Sophie Kinsella form I laughed a little, shook my head a lot, and pretty well enjoyed the writing. I am a sucker for British Chick Lit so that could be part of it too. I would call this a good beach, summery read
Book 28. BEAUTIFUL DAYS, A BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS NOVEL by Anna Godbersen
I wanted to love this series as much as I love THE LUXE, but I can not get into it. I will continue to read any subsequent books because my OCD wont let me leave a series unfinished, but honestly, it lacks, for me, what the Luxe had. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's just not there. The story flowed, but I was not excited by the story lines. Maybe if I would have discovered Ms. Godbersen from this series and then read THE LUXE books, I would feel differently.
Book 29. GUILT BY ASSOCIATION by Marcia Clark
This is the first book in a series by the famed Marcia Clark (yes! the OJ Simpson Marcia Clark). I purchased these books on my Nook after reading a recommendation from my favorite author Christopher Rice. I was not disappointed. From the beginning Rachel and Bailey were two women I would want to be friends with. Their back and forth banter had me shaking my head reminding me of a relationship with one of my girlfriends. I finished it in a day! No small feat for me. I am reading the short nook download and hope to move onto the next book GUILT BY DEGREES soon. My nook is getting so backed up with books to read! If you love a strong female heroine who isn't afraid to kick ass and take names, GUILT BY ASSOCIATION will be a hit for you!
Book 30. 11TH HOUR by James Patterson
In the realm of the Women's Murder Club series, the book was on par and a nice flow from 10TH ANNIVERSARY. There was action, adventure, a little personal drama and some tears. All typical of the Womens Murder Club we have been with for the last 11 books. I am wondering if this series will drag out the way Alex Cross has (please I hope it ends because I cant take much more and again, my OCD wont let me stop reading the series). I would say it was just above meh
Book 31. THE SELECTION by Kiera Cass
Well, I found out about some controversary over a goodreads.com citizen review of the book after I finished THE SELECTION. Had I known about it before, I absolutely would not have read this book. I actually think it is a little unseemly that an author and publicist would behave in such an inappropriate manner towards a reader, and therefore tainting their own pool of perspective readers by bashing a mere mortal on the internet. So I am a little clouded over the author now. The book was okay. The ending left a lot to be desired. I dont find this book being a cliffhanging ended needed book. It would have been better to give a decision on who the selected was and then begin wiht the next phase of America, Maxon and Aspens lived. I was not at all a fan of Aspen and I found bringing him into the palace a little predictable. The book read quickly and you can tell is geared for a YA audience. It was a little Bachelor meets dystopian caste system society. All in all okay but I hope the following books are greatly improved.
