Running the Books: The Adventures of an Accidental Prison Librarian...Avi Steinberg
In this captivating memoir, Steinberg, a Harvard grad and struggling obituary writer, spends two years as a librarian and writing instructor at a Boston prison that's an irrepressibly literary place. True, his patrons turn books into weapons (and one robs him while out on parole), but he's beguiled by the rough poetry of inmate essays and "kites"--contraband notes secreted in library books--and entranced by the "skywriting" with which they semaphore messages letter-by-letter across the courtyard. And there's always an informal colloquium of prostitutes, thieves, and drug dealers convened at the checkout desk, discussing everything from Steinberg's love life to the "gangsta" subculture of Hasidic Jews. Gradually, the prison pulls him in and undermines his bemused neutrality. He helps a forlorn female prisoner communicate with her inmate son, develops a dangerous beef with a guard, and finds himself collaborating on the memoir of a charismatic pimp whose seductive rap disguises a nasty rap sheet; he has to choose sides, make queasy compromises, and decide between rules and loyalty. Steinberg writes a stylish prose that blends deadpan wit with an acute moral seriousness. The result is a fine portrait of prison life and the thwarted humanity that courses through it. (Oct. 26) (c)

Double Cross - Alex Cross Series by James Patterson
I kept thinking I missed something because all the sudden there was this girlfriend character that I dont recall being in Cross. It seemed really out of place, but the book was typical Alex Cross so pretty good.

Cross Country - Alex Cross Series - James Patterson
I really enjoyed this one. It was set mostly in Africa (Nigeria and Sudan). I was not totally surprised by who was involved in the end, but the story line was pretty good.
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - Stieg Larsson
Eh, the second book was my favorite, but this one was def better than the first.

I, Alex Cross - James Patterson
I liked this one! I had an idea of who the "bad guy" was from the beginning but I was flip flopping between two of the characters. It was a quick read.

And of course my latest read

With James Patterson's white-hot speed and unquenchable action, 10th Anniversary is the most deliciously chilling Women's Murder Club book ever.Library Journal
Gone, baby, gone. Patterson's tenth novel in the Women's Murder Club (WMC) series (after The 9th Judgment) opens with a missing baby. Sgt. Lindsay Boxer is assigned a case that leaves her little time to enjoy her new marriage. A nearly naked teenage girl, bleeding and incoherent, is found stumbling out of the woods by passing motorists. Hospital tests reveal that she had recently given birth. So where is the baby? Meanwhile, Boxer's friend, attorney Yuki Castellano, is prosecuting the case of a doctor accused of murdering her husband. But did she really do it? Castellano is unhappy when Boxer starts questioning the foundations of her case. Another friend, crime reporter Cindy Thomas, might have gotten herself in too deep when she starts investigating a local rapist. VERDICT Patterson and coauthor Paetro spin a fast-paced triple mystery that expertly weaves the stories together. It is the distinct yet complementary personalities of the WMC members that make the story's heart beat. Highly recommended for series fans as well as readers who enjoy David Baldacci, Patricia Cornwell, and John Grisham.—Susan O. Moritz, Montgomery Cty. P.L.s., MDMore Reviews and Recommendations
I am looking forward to getting in quite a few more reads in May. 10th Anniversary was my 25th book of the year. 27 more to reach my goal for this year. I recently downloaded a whole slew of books to get through on my nook. But I am anxiously awaiting the release of a few new books from a few authors I frequent.
